Fictional demonstration · CAD · August 2026

Every figure and scenario is illustrative. This is a management-report example, not client results, an assurance report or advice for your business.

Example Saskatchewan business

A stronger sales month.
A tighter cash position.

Closing cash$25,000Down $15,000 in August
Gross margin38.0%5.0 percentage points below July
Operating profit$10,000Before interest and income tax
Overdue receivables$50,00050.0% of total receivables

What changed

Sales alone do not explain the month.

Revenue increased by $20,000 from July. Direct costs rose faster, leaving gross profit $1,400 lower and operating profit $5,400 lower.

Cash receipts were $182,000 and payments were $197,000. The difference reduced cash from $40,000 to $25,000.

What matters next

Validate the cause. Assign the action.

Follow up on overdue accounts, explain the cost changes and refresh the cash forecast before making another commitment.

These are questions for the management conversation. The sample figures alone do not establish the cause of a variance.

Relevance

Focus on the change that affects the next decision.

Reliability

Use the same reporting rhythm and follow up on open actions.

Accuracy

Reconcile balances and support the assumptions before relying on them.
